In the middle of the Mecklenburg Lakeland is Germany’s largest inland lake – Müritz. It’s a paradise for all types of water sports: bathing, swimming, sailing, surfing, canoe and kayaking. There are wonderful cycling tours along the shores of the Müritz to Malchow or to the town harbour of Waren. Germany’s largest on-shore national park on the eastern shore of the Ufer is worth a visit. The Müritz National Park houses old, richly structured beech forests in the Serrahn zone. The forests, which have not been managed for 60 years now, are returning to their natural state and have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1990.
