05 Aug Eifel
Fascinating meeting with the four elements
A thousand years ago, red hot magma and groundwater collided, creating powerful eruptions. The resulting craters subsequently filled with water and today are better known as the maars (lakes) of the Volcanic Eifel or the “Eyes of the Eifel”. The Dauner Maars are a unique geological natural product and offer superb walks. The Wallende Born is the only cold water geyser in the Vulkaneifel and spews fountains metres high every 35 minutes – a marvellous spectacle. Past times are brought back to life at the historical medieval festival of the two Manderscheid castles or if you visit the wonderful moated castle Satzvey.
